Romanian companies hit by costly GRU-conducted NotPetya cyberattack
On June 27, 2017, at least three large companies in Romania were affected by the NotPetya cyberattack that struck companies and institutions all across Europe and the United States. Ukraine’s security service reported on July 1, 2017 that Russian security services were involved in the attacks. In June 2018, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned five Russian firms and three of their executives in response to the NotPetya Cyber Operations and other campaigns.
